FREN 470 Adv Oral Expressi & Phonetics
This course examines the linguistic features and properties of various regional and social dialects of French. While students will be trained to produce Standard Parisian French, they will develop an appreciation of the French dialects spoken in the Cote d'Azure, Switzerland and Belgium, and Quebec. Readings and class discussions will focus on the linguistic rules of various pronunciations, the nature of language change over time, and the psychological reality of regional, social and foreign accent. Prerequisite: FREN 201 or equivalent.
