BIO 250 Programming for Biologists

This course is designed to enable students with little or no computer science background to manage many different biological data formats using basic bash, python, and R scripting methods. Programming for Biologists will cover a range of common biological problems that can be solved more efficiently with programming such as filtering and reformatting large batches of text-based data (e.g., sequencing results, environmental records, ecological observations), preparing students to automate data analysis with biological software. A typical class will consist of lecture-based introductions to foundational programming skills and concepts followed by hands on exercises. Linux laptops will be provided for course use as needed.
