READ 415 Literacy Assessment

Study of formal and informal assessments used in all aspects of elementary literacy instruction including screening instruments and diagnostic, outcome-based and progress monitoring assessments. Students will study the principles of test construction including reliability, validity, and norm-referenced assessments. Students will administer assessments, interpret assessments, and utilize assessment data in instructional planning. Instructional planning includes creating flexible groups and tiered interventions as part of Response to Intervention. Within this course, emphasis will be placed on the assessment and remediation of weaknesses in working memory, attention, executive function, and processing speed and the specific academic and assessment profiles of students with dyslexia and those identified as English Language Learners.
