DH 385 Clinical Dental Hygiene IV
Lectures and group discussion focus on patient-centered care involving developmental, physical, and mental disabilities related to oral maxillofacial surgery including patients with cleft lip/palate. Identification and management of challenges geriatric and homebound patients face are discussed. Identification and reporting of child/elder abuse and neglect are discussed. Students will participate in field experience in dental offices, schools, and geriatric facilities. In preparation for future employment, resume, cover letter, and reference development will be utilized during introductory videos. Didactic and clinical components include the use of a low-level laser for bacterial reduction, periodontal therapy, and other non-surgical periodontal therapeutic treatments.
Prerequisite
Must be an associate degree-seeking dental hygiene student.
