DH 460 Pain Management

This course is designed to enhance the dental hygiene students' knowledge of the mechanisms of pain, the control of dental pain through the administration of topical anesthetics, infiltration and block anesthesia and monitoring Nitrous Oxide Sedation. Emphasis will be placed on the pharmacology of dental drugs, systemic complications, infection control techniques, and record keeping. Techniques for the administration of local anesthesia under the direct supervision of a dentist will be practiced in the laboratory/clinical setting.
