SOC 430 Health and Social Behavior
What are the advantages and barriers to good health according to class, race, gender, age, geography? We examine the social processes involved in etiology, epidemiology, and treatment of illness, as well as relationships that affect patient care (e.g. doctor-nurse-patient communication). Contemporary healthcare policies and such issues as stress, alternatives to western medicine, and health maintenance organizations are also addressed. Prerequisites: ENG 101 and 102.
