Visual Communication: Graphic Design (B.S.)

Visual Communication is an interdisciplinary program that integrates visual acuity with skill and knowledge in areas of graphic design, fine art, communications, technology, and business. Emphasis is placed on the conception, design, planning, and implementation of visual solutions to complex problems in contemporary culture. In addition, the department seeks to encourage freedom of expression and creativity through the development of innovative concepts with professional execution to help students become conversant in the philosophy and psychology of both historical and contemporary art and design forms. The Visual Communication degree program offers four different concentrations that focus on targeted skills within each area. Concentrations include Digital Media Design, Graphic Design, Illustration, and Studio Art.

Graphic Design concentration focuses on the art of communication through images and typography in a wide range of print or digital applications and settings. It exists at the convergence of business and creativity. Graphic Design is the craft of planning and creating visual content to communicate ideas and messages, and it is professionally specialized to connect users or consumers to brands, ideas, and information through creative visual thinking and storytelling.
