BIO 422 Phylogenetics

This course will provide a foundation in phylogenetic principles and methods. Emphasis will be placed on understanding the construction and interpretation of phylogenetic trees in a modern evolutionary biology context. Phylogenetics will review the development of evolutionary theory, develop ‘tree thinking’ skills (reading and interpreting trees and phylogenetic relationships accurately), and provide hands-on gene and species tree inference experience using multiple programs and publicly available sequence data.
