PA 519 Health Promotion & Disease Prevention

This course enables students to have an appreciation of the public health system and the role of healthcare providers in the prevention of disease and maintenance of population health. Public health topics will include disease surveillance and reporting as well as intervention and factors that influence health disparities. The course also covers selected topics dealing with preventive medicine, with particular attention to efficacy of prevention, diagnostic screening tools, lifestyle modifications, barriers to preventive care and improving the delivery of preventive clinical services. Emphasis is placed on Healthy People 2020 and the USPSTF guidelines.
