Visual Communication: Illustration (B.A.)

Visual Communication is an interdisciplinary program that integrates visual acuity with skill and knowledge in areas of graphic design, fine art, communications, technology, and business. Emphasis is placed on the conception, design, planning, and implementation of visual solutions to complex problems in contemporary culture. In addition, the department seeks to encourage freedom of expression and creativity through the development of innovative concepts with professional execution to help students become conversant in the philosophy and psychology of both historical and contemporary art and design forms. The Visual Communication degree program offers four different concentrations that focus on targeted skills within each area. Concentrations include Digital Media Design, Graphic Design, Illustration, and Studio Art.

The Visual Communication: Illustration (B.A.) program at West Liberty University offers a comprehensive, interdisciplinary education for students who are passionate about pursuing a career in commercial illustration. WLU empowers students to realize their artistic potential and launch successful careers in the diverse world of illustration by offering a mix of hands-on studio work, digital tools training, and liberal arts courses. The curriculum emphasizes creative development, technical mastery, and business acumen, ensuring that graduates are not only skilled artists but also prepared for the practical demands of the industry. Students complete the program by developing and exhibiting a portfolio of illustration work that demonstrates the student’s creative vision and personal style.
