Data Science (B.S.)
The Bachelor of Science in Data Science prepares students to develop practical and actionable solutions to real-world problems involving small to massive amounts of data by incorporating the entire data science pipeline: problem formulation, data collection, high powered computing, statistical analyses, and meaningful interpretation. Specific learning outcomes include:
1. Generate, collect, clean, store, manage, and process data
2. Implement data visualization and exploratory data analysis techniques
3. Develop mathematical, statistical, and data-based models
4. Extract information from large datasets using statistical learning techniques
5. Acquire intermediate-level Python programming proficiency
6. Interpret modeling results as they relate to a real-world problem
7. Communicate problems, methods, and findings into oral, visual, and written formats for any audience
REQUIREMENTS
The requirements to complete the Bachelor of Science in Data Science are broken into the three components listed below. These requirements include 59 credit hours of required courses and a minimum of 6 credit hours of restricted upper division mathematics electives for a minimum total of 65 credit hours in the major. A grade of C or better must be earned in courses listed in the "Required Courses" and "Restricted Electives" sections. In addition to the requirements listed above, students in this degree program are required to complete a minor at West Liberty University.
Required Courses
Restricted Electives
Students must complete 6 credit hours from the following courses.
MATH 478 and MATH 479 may be repeated for credit toward the B.S. in Data Science.
Minor
Students must select and complete a minor at West Liberty University in consultation with their academic advisor.
