Visual Communication: Studio Art (B.A.)

Visual Communication is an interdisciplinary program that integrates visual acuity with skill and knowledge in areas of graphic design, fine art, communications, technology, and business. Emphasis is placed on the conception, design, planning, and implementation of visual solutions to complex problems in contemporary culture. In addition, the department seeks to encourage freedom of expression and creativity through the development of innovative concepts with professional execution to help students become conversant in the philosophy and psychology of both historical and contemporary art and design forms. The Visual Communication degree program offers four different concentrations that focus on targeted skills within each area. Concentrations include Digital Media Design, Graphic Design, Illustration, and Studio Art.

The Studio Art concentration under the Visual Communication degree provides a major for students who plan to pursue studio art as professionals or a studio art-related graduate degree. Students are to choose between a 2D or 3D track. The Visual Communication: Studio Art requires a sophomore portfolio review and successfully completing a capstone senior exhibition.
